Ex Call of Duty player Ray 'Rambo' Lussier is currently working at Sledgehammer Games as competitive systems designer, and during our recent discussion with him about Call of Duty: WWII, we asked whether the game can rejuvenate CoD esports with an added layer of strategy, to which he responded positively.

"I think you kinda pinpointed the issue, which is the strategy involved in boost was very different. It was harder to watch because it was much faster, a lot of different angles created by height you could gain," he said. "The strategy around that is just what makes it so different. It's more about kinda rushing as a team, trading kills, while strategic boots on the ground, if a player's holding a position down on a power position then [they] can kill three or four different guys coming at him at once, something we haven't seen in the past couple of years, it's been very sporadic in strategies."

"So yeah, I definitely think WWII will be the kinda comeback to like the Black Ops 2 era where you saw a lot of strategic strategies as a team, a lot more teamplay around pushing certain areas, and it becomes more like playing chess or a board game than it is just running at your opponent, trying to outtrade them. So I think yeah, for sure, WWII will be kinda like a comeback to that strategy, that effort, in esports."

Do you think WWII will rejuvenate Call of Duty's esports scene?
